The Objective
Caterpillar sought a redesign of their legacy PC-based Calculator app, which had been in use since the 90s. The goal was to modernize the app, aligning it with current design standards, while adding new features to enhance usability. The Calculator app helps Caterpillar's internal representatives and dealers sell service contracts by determining the appropriate contract type for specific equipment or parts. The redesign aimed to make the app easier to use, ensuring users could efficiently extract and utilize the data to create accurate offers.
The Challenge
The main challenge was transforming a complex, convoluted data table into a user-friendly interface that would allow users to easily extract the relevant information. The original app featured layers of information in a format that made it difficult for users to navigate, resulting in slower decision-making.
